Most disappointing CCTV installations were specified by quantity. Sixty-four cameras sounds thorough and tells you nothing about whether you will be able to identify a face at the gate, read a number plate at the weighbridge, or retain footage long enough for an incident reported a fortnight later.
We design from the site and the requirement. Each camera position has a stated purpose — detect, recognise or identify — because that determines lens, sensor and mounting height. Retention drives storage sizing. Lighting conditions at 3am drive sensor choice. Network load drives switch and uplink capacity, which is where a security project quietly becomes an infrastructure project.

How many cameras do we need?
That is the wrong first question, and answering it immediately is a warning sign. Tell us what you need to see and prove; the count follows from the coverage design. Sometimes it is fewer cameras positioned properly.
How long should we retain footage?
Commonly 30 to 90 days, driven by policy, insurance and how quickly incidents surface. Manufacturing sites often need longer because damage and theft are reported late.
Can you work with our existing cameras?
Usually yes. We assess what is worth keeping, what should be repositioned and what has reached end of life, then design around it rather than proposing wholesale replacement by default.
